Contessa’s Cantina Bids Farewell in Bisbee

Writer: sierravistalivesierravistalive

Monday was officially the last day for the owners of Contessa’s Cantina in Bisbee after 10 years.

The owner of Main Street Bistro, Mike Donahue, has made the decision to close his bistro and move to the Contessa’s Cantina location.

Main Street Bistro is closed as well while Mike transitions to the restaurant. “I'm really hoping to be open by mid-August as long as everything goes smoothly. I will be resurrecting the Los Hermanos menu and will be doing Carne Asada, Barbacoa, Sonoran Dogs, Birria and much more!! I will also be keeping some favorites from the Contessas menu of course. I will be posting more as we get a little closer to opening.”

The owners of Contessa’s posted the following farewell message:

“Today marks a bittersweet moment for us (Victor & Gustavo) as we bid farewell after 10 incredible years of owning Contessa’s Cantina. After much reflection, our decision to close is rooted in the need to prioritize our health and personal well-being. Owning this restaurant has been a dream come true, and making this decision has not been easy, but we are confident that it is the right one for us at this time. The memories we’ve created together will forever hold a special place in our hearts. The friendships made, the milestones celebrated, and the moments of happiness shared, will be cherished forever. It has been a journey filled with joy, excitement, challenges, and above all, the unwavering support of our local community and dedicated staff.

First and foremost, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you who have walked through these doors over the years. To our beloved locals, you have been the backbone of our success. Your continued support, kind words, and loyalty have susstained us through the years. From the bustling weekends to the quieter weekdays, your presence has been a constant source of inspiration and motivation. Thank you for choosing us, for dining with us, and for allowing us to be a part of your lives. Your support has truly made all the difference.

To our amazing staff, you are forever our family. Your hard work, and commitment have been the driving force behind the restaurants warm and welcoming atmosphere our guests have come to love. Most of you have been with us for years, and your dedication has been invaluable. Thank you to our cooks for their creativity in the kitchen and making our food with love. As we reflect on the memories we’ve shared, we are filled with immense pride. From the busy evenings to the quiet moments, each experience has shaped our journey. While this chapter may be coming to a close, the memories and friendships forged here, will forever remain in our hearts. Hard working staff is not an easy thing to come by in this town and we truly couldn’t have found better people to complete our restaurant family. Our biggest achievement will forever be our staff and the fact that we haven’t had an open serving or cook position in 4 years, so to other local businesses that have always wanted to snatch our great staff, now’s the time.

While we say farewell to Contessa’s by the end of this month, we do so with optimism and excitement for the future. We are confident that this community will continue to support and cherish the new chapter ahead. We will carry the lessons learned and the fond memories of our time together. Thank you once again for allowing us the privilege of serving this beautiful town. It has been an honor and pleasure.

With heartfelt gratitude, warmest wishes, and much love,

Gustavo Alonso
