U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Port of Naco intercepted a methamphetamine smuggling attempt on Tuesday, February 18, seizing approximately 159 pounds of the illicit drug.
Shortly after 10:00 a.m., a 46-year-old Mexican citizen driving a Chevrolet pickup truck entered the vehicle lane for entry into the United States. A CBP officer directed the driver to secondary inspection for further examination.
During the secondary screening, officers used inspection technology, which showed anomalies within the truck. A CBP canine unit also alerted to the presence of narcotics, prompting an extensive physical search of the vehicle.

Officers uncovered a hidden compartment in the truck’s rear bed, where they discovered 26 packages filled with methamphetamine. The total estimated street value of the seized drugs is $167,067.
Both the narcotics and the vehicle were seized. The driver was taken into custody and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations.
