Victim, Suspect Identified in Benson Shooting

Benson, AZ — A fatal shooting occurred in Benson on Saturday, September 14, 2024, following an altercation between two individuals. The incident took place at approximately 5:00 p.m. in the 300 block of East Walker St, near the intersection of N San Pedro St.



Officers responded to a 911 call reporting gunshots and arrived at the scene to find a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. First responders immediately began performing CPR as they awaited a medical helicopter to transport the victim. The victim was pronounced deceased while en route to the hospital.

 

The victim’s name is Christian D. Bennett, 30, of Benson, Arizona. The suspect, Austin D. Kyes, 20, Benson, Arizona has been charged by the Cochise County Attorney’s Office with 2nd Degree Murder with a 1-million-dollar bond.

 

Benson Police Chief Greg Volker said, “While this is a tragic situation for the small, caring community of Benson, I do want to thank the kindness and honor of many community members who came forward to assist in the investigation as well as the support given by the Law Enforcement Community.”
