Sierra Vista, Arizona — Cochise College celebrated a historic milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its first-ever student housing facility at the Sierra Vista campus. The newly unveiled dormitory, Bugen Hall, represents a significant step forward in the college's mission to enhance student life and provide convenient accommodations for students from across the county.
Named after Bisbee native, Navy veteran, and Cochise College Hall of Fame inductee George Bugen, Bugen Hall honors his legacy of service and philanthropy. Outgoing Cochise College President J.D. Rottweiler spoke at the ceremony, emphasizing Bugenis' contributions to the college's technical programs and his lasting impact on the institution.
Rottweiler spoke of George's life of dedication to helping others and explained how his work paved the way for the technical and vocational programs that are a cornerstone of Cochise College today. The dormitory, also part of Phase III of the Cochise College First Responders Academy, is a 20,000-square-foot facility designed to house 45 students. The apartment-style accommodations feature three private bedrooms per unit, with shared common areas to foster a sense of community while providing individual privacy.
Full-time students enrolled in at least 12 credit hours can apply for housing until January 21, 2025.
