Douglas police released the following information on the homicide investigation from Wednesday morning:

On June 11, 2025 at approximately 2AM, officers responded to the area of the 1000 block of 14th Street in reference to numerous gun shots being heard. Upon arrival, officers located a male subject laying on the sidewalk.

The male subject appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers rendered aid to the male subject until Douglas Fire Medics arrived on scene and took over lifesaving efforts. The male subject was transported to the Douglas Emergency Department where he succumbed to his injuries.

The male subject was identified as 37 year-old Jose Diaz of Douglas.

Through investigation, detectives were able to establish probable cause against the two persons of interest who were detained earlier this morning. With the help of the Bisbee Police Department, both subjects were taken into custody in Bisbee at approximately 10AM without incident. The suspects, identified as 44 year-old Francisco Martinez of Douglas and 32 year-old Adrian Gonzalez of Bisbee, Arizona, have been booked into the Cochise County Jail for Murder in the First Degree. The investigation is still ongoing.

Chief Fullen shared:

"I am extremely grateful for the long hours that our officers, detectives and professional staff put in today resulting in the arrest of those responsible.

I hope that this brings some comfort to the victim's family and loved ones, knowing that those responsible for their loss will be brought before justice.

I am equally grateful to the Bisbee Police Department - to their officer who was queued into the event happening in Douglas and vigilant in spotting the suspect vehicle based on the limited description. And to Chief Cox and his team for their continued support throughout the day. It is a level of

collaboration, the helping without hesitation, that is special in Cochise County and throughout Arizona".
