Huachuca City, Ariz. - March 1, 2025
The Huachuca City Police Department has recently upgraded its fleet with new, fully equipped police vehicles, reinforcing their support for public safety, community engagement, and officer readiness. These additions will enhance the department’s ability to serve and protect residents, ensuring officers have the latest technology and resources to respond effectively to emergencies.
Thanks to a Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (DEMA) Grant, the department has acquired two 2024 Chevrolet Silverado police trucks, outfitted with infrared cameras, new police radios, and enhanced safety features. These trucks are designed to provide greater visibility and mobility, allowing officers to patrol more effectively with the tools need for various emergencies.

A 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe was purchased through a municipal lease program to replace aging patrol units. This vehicle was assigned to Cpl. Jose Olivas, who serves as the School Resource Officer (SRO) at Huachuca City Elementary School. His role involves not only ensuring the safety of students and staff but also building trusting relationships with the community’s youth.

Cpl. Jose Olivas has dedicated more than two decades to law enforcement, playing a vital role in keeping Huachuca City safe. After beginning his career in 1998 as a corrections officer in Douglas, Arizona, he transitioned to patrol work with the Tombstone Police Department in 2005 before joining the Huachuca City Police Department 12 years ago. Throughout his tenure, he has taken on different responsibilities, from administrative duties to overseeing animal control.

Since November 2023, Olivas has worked as the School Resource Officer, providing security, mentorship, and guidance to students at Huachuca City Elementary School. His presence fosters a safe and welcoming school environment, reinforcing positive connections between law enforcement and the next generation.

Another officer benefiting from the department’s upgraded fleet is Officer Adam Werkheiser, a seasoned law enforcement professional and police academy instructor. Although not an SRO, Werkheiser plays a crucial role in training new recruits, ensuring they receive top-tier instruction to prepare for modern policing challenges. One of the new Chevrolet Silverado trucks has been assigned to Werkheiser, equipping him with the latest technology to support both law enforcement operations and training initiatives.
