WILLCOX, Ariz. – Newly elected Willcox Mayor Greg Hancock is set to deliver his first State of the City Address on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Willcox Community Center, located at 312 W. Stewart St. Mayor Hancock, who took office just five months ago after serving on the City Council, is inviting residents to attend and engage with other community members and city officials.
Mayor Hancock has called Willcox home for the past ten years, living in the city with his wife, two children, and family dog. In addition to his mayoral duties, he owns and operates the Arizona Sunset Inn, a business he transformed from a closed hotel into a thriving establishment. His efforts in revitalizing the inn have significantly contributed to the local economy, creating jobs and fostering downtown development.
The address will provide an opportunity for Mayor Hancock to outline his vision for Willcox, discuss key initiatives, and highlight progress made in recent months. With a focus on economic growth, community engagement, and city improvements, he aims to share plans that will help shape the future of Willcox. Residents will have a chance to learn more about ongoing projects and upcoming developments.
One of the primary challenges Mayor Hancock will discuss is water management. He plans to address the complexities of balancing the needs of agriculture with ensuring a sustainable water supply for residents. He seeks to collaborate with state officials to maintain this balance, supporting the local economy while securing water resources for future generations. The recent designation of the Willcox Basin as an Active Management Area (AMA) has added restrictions on water usage, impacting not only local vineyards, but also landowners with farms over two acres or non-exempt wells. Under these new regulations, water use is limited to irrigation of land that was legally watered within five years before October 23, 2024, and users must measure their water consumption.
Another highlight of the address will be the achievements of city employees in obtaining grants for revitalization projects. These funds have enabled Willcox to continue upgrades at Quail and Keiller Parks without relying solely on the general budget, improving recreational spaces for the community. More information can be found here.
Mayor Hancock will also recognize the contributions of local businesses, the Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, and non-profit organizations. Their efforts in supporting community engagement and local events have strengthened Willcox’s reputation as a welcoming and close-knit town. He will extend his gratitude to residents and business owners for their dedication to making Willcox a vibrant and thriving, historic community, surrounded by mountains and vineyards.
Residents are encouraged to attend the event, meet city officials, and take part in shaping the future of Willcox. The State of the City Address will serve as a platform for open dialogue, fostering stronger connections between leadership and the community.
This event is presented by the Willcox Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture. Food will be provided.
