On Saturday, May 31, Cochise Serving Veterans (CSV) held a Veteran’s Resource Fair in Benson, Arizona, offering essential services and resources to local veterans. Representatives from the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) attended, ensuring veterans could access information on disability claims, benefits, and health services.
Vice-Chair Christine O’Hara shared that the event was just one of CSV’s ongoing outreach efforts. “Our mission is to make sure veterans have access to all the resources they need,” O’Hara explained. “From help with disability claims to ensuring veterans have food and essential items, we’re here to support them.”

Formed in October 2013 by Sierra Vista veteran Harry Bowen, CSV volunteers provide a focused source for veteran resources, referral services, and community support. Through outreach, education, and networking, CSV helps veterans achieve independence and self-sufficiency through a coalition of federal, state, and local government representatives, along with private agencies and veteran service organizations.

Saturday’s event in Benson marked CSV’s fourth Community Connect event in the area and featured a variety of services. Attendees could receive free haircuts, pet food and toys courtesy of the Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center, groceries from the Benson Community Food Pantry, and blood pressure checks provided by Benson Hospital. VA representatives were on hand to explain available services, while DAV representatives offered guidance on filing and updating claims.

CSV’s signature event, the Arizona Veterans Stand-down, will be coming up again this year in October at the Ethel Berger Center in Sierra Vista. This annual gathering draws veterans from across Cochise County to learn about available resources and connect with support networks.
